Guage Problem

I Have a 92 Ford 350 Box Truck The Alternator Guage Quit & The Temp Guage Quit. Is There a Fuse Somewhere?

If the fuel guage still works, I don't think it will be the fuse or the guage regulator. Try this experiment.

Go out to the engine and find the temp guage sending unit. This will usually be a sensor screwed into the water jacket somewhere, and will have ONE wire on it. You may see some sensors with two wires on them, but the are probably for the fuel injection computer. I looked on an old diagram, and the wire color used to be red/white.

With the keyswitch in run, take the wire off the sensor and ground it to the engine block. The temp guage should swing full scale one direction. Then take the wire off the metal ground(engine block), and let it hang in the air. The temp guage should swing all the way full scale the opposite direction. If this test works, then the problem is a bad sensor, the guage is fine.

I don't have much faith in the factory amp meters ever working very good. Yours may have worked better than others? Or possibly you just noticed it doesn't move at all(like most factory ammeters) because the temp guage was not working?
