Neighbor and myself both have Ford F250's. His is an 01 and mine an 04. Both 4x4 - with auto tranny's. Both had stock 31 inch tires. Both lifted now with 37 inch tires - same brand.
His speedometer is off 15% and mine is only off 12%. What would cause that???
Note: speeds were accurately recorded with GPS units for comparisons.
Hmm gps units, well I wouldn't really count on that, but umm my first guess is rear axle ratios or different trannies? Different size lift? Well i guess that wouldn't matter. Were they exactly the same before, did you pace them together side by side on the road. Really though, 3% difference.
And judging by your other posts I would be confused...
No speedo is "certified" correct other than police crussiers, there will be some differences even between identical vehicles.
The only thing that will effect your speedo is tire size,... gear changes will not, lifts will not, tranny will not.

True - I guess we never really paced the vehicles before. One thing I did notice that when I went from 31's to 33's my speedometer was dead on. I never checked it with the 31's. I suspect that my speedometer may have been off from the factory.
For those who are unfamiliar with GPS tracking and speed measurment my particular unit is a WAAS activated 3D Garmin Map 76 which is extremely accurate. I have compared speed measurments against radar, laser and calibrated speedometers and it was always exactly on!
