Rancho RS 9000 settings
Rancho RS 9000 settings
I know ride quality is obviously a personal preference.. I was looking for some of the gang's observations on shock settings.. My ranchos go on next week and while adjusting isnt a problem, I thought I would try and save myself some trial and error by asking your opinions..
for a comfortable ride about town..not fully loaded, what # setting do you all use?
Do you set rear firmer in relation to the front as a routine?
I will be towing travel trailer that weighs 6400 - 6700 fully loaded with gear and food. The X will have 5 pasengers of adult weight.. and other gear. Any thoughts for good settings when towing?
thanks alot
Bill

You're right... it is personal preference...
The guy I got my 9000's from had them set on 9 for his Ex...
Some say 7/5 for the diesel...
thus far I've set mine at 3 all around...
but may have to change that when I go on my trip this weekend loaded down...

Great shock, had them on my 02 Excursion. Towing a trailer similiar to weight as yours (7000 lbs) I set the front 5, rear 7, rode very nice. I left the settings on the shocks all the time, made for a stiffer ride around town, but I don't mind that. Now have 04 Excursion diesel, haven't changed the shocks yet.
thanks guys...
I have them set for 3 front and 5 rear for now.. I love the ride!!
The shocks plus hellwig rear ASB makes the truck feel like a completely different vehicle.. The handling over all is vastly improved when cornering, taking sharp curves on exit ramps etc... I will move the settings up for towing..
just one problem..........
In a week's time I upgraded stock steeltex "D" tires thru the recall and put on REVOS. Then added shocks and anti-sway bar. The "E" load tires plus shocks caused her to think the ride was harsh.. <she liked it best stock> so here's the plan.....
I am going to tell her I adjusted the shocks and see if she notices.. If I am not back on the forum for 24 hours, call the cops.. she may have discovered my little lie..

I am curious about Rancho shocks. I have an 03 X with PSD. Have already added Hellwig ASB and radius rods. Directional stability is now good. Cornering pretty good for a 4 ton vehicle. Sometimes I think the ride could be further improved. Only have about 18K miles on it right now. Is it worth the upgrade to Rancho 9000s at this time?
Hi Forest...
I just did the upgrade thanks to a guy in NorthTexasPowerstrokes.com who was putting a lift on his superduty and the 9000's were less than 2 months old...
so I got them from him for a FAIR price...
I've always suspected the stock shocks were not up to the task of handling my STOCK tires, much less anything more since I've had front tire cupping every time if I don't rotate quickly enough...
I REALLY like the adjustability of the 9000's already... and given I'm a lazy boy will probably opt for the in dash adjusters so I can quickly change the settings depending on road conditions...
