Partial lower grill?

I was looking at my truck today and was wondering...
In the lower grill on the front, how come it doesn't go all the way across?
Does anyone know?
Mine only has the grill for a few inches on both the left and the right but open in the middle.

Thanks in advance.

All of the F150's are like that! It makes the truck look bare mouthed. (Snagger toothed) I hated it also. I mounted two PIAA Fog Lamps on each side and the License plate bracket in the middle (with personalize plate). Really looks SWEET now!!

dgordon,

You got any pics?
I've already got foglights but would be interested in doing something to dress up that area. I do know I can't block it off because the transmission cooler is behind it.
I was thinking something billet-style.
