Mud Collector!

Over the weekend I changed the spark plugs on my 4.0 L 1996 Ranger that I bought in January. After searching all of the threads on how to change the plugs on the passenger side I decided the best was was to remove the inner fender liner. I must say it saved my knuckles from being busted up!

Now for the mud part:

The inner liner has a cup over the bottom fender bolt near where the front mudflap mounts, I assume to give it a clean look when looking at the side of the truck. That cup was full of mud and rocks, and still wet! There is one weep hole for stuff to drain out, but it is too small. Before installing the liner back on I took a Dremel tool and cut out a 3" x 3/8" section of the plastic on the bottom to allow more crud drainage, and to get a place to blast water in to flush it out the next time the truck gets washed. I found the driver's side was just as clogged up.

I figured I would share what I found so that those of you who hate rust as much as me might want to check this out on your truck.

That's not a mud collector, that's the fun times time capsule Ford thoughtfully installed! Just think of all the fun times you'll no longer get to revisit now that yours no longer accumulates memories....
