I know that I always ask questions about fabrication and yall are probably thinking that Ill never do any of it, but Im just waiting on the summer and some more CO2/Ar welding gas (been doing too much wheeling to have time to go get some).
Anyways, do you think that if i made a new crossmember it would be strong enough? How thick (wall) of pipe would I have to use? Id use 1-3/4" pipe, but of what wall thickness?
My current crossmember is mounted to the passenger side of the axle to the cener of the truck, and is about 1-1/2 ft long, and obviously will have to be relocated to the driver's side frame. Ill make that mount too, out of 1/4" steel.
So, basically Im asking if yall think I can fabricate a crossmember strong enough (aside from welding skills) for an F-350 and it not break (or at least anytime soon, like within 2 years)?
what's the crossmember for? tranny mount? just a crossmember? track-bar? I would say use some 3/8" cold rolled steel plate or angle iron. and then use E7018 so it will be strong enough for just about any application.
Sorry, didnt mean corssmember, but thanks for the pics and everything.
Id have to weld onto my engine crossmember, but not fab one...
I meant the Axle locator arm...
ugh, sorry guys...bet the whole 1-3/4" pipe didnt make any sense... : )
I would use 1020 DOM 1.5" OD, wall thickness of .95", and 1.4" ID. that would be very strong and maybe even use heim joints on the ends to allow for a lil bit of bind, but i dunno if that would hurt the ride in terms of DW. Use 6010 root pass on about 115 amps and then use E7018AC as multi passes for added strength.
My track bar uses a heim on one end and a poly bushing on the other. I am about to replace the heim with a greasable heim....but other than that, the setup works perfectly.
Yall keep in minnd that Im very aggressive offroad... Stuff breaks fast with me, just lost my power steering today...
Sorry about that double post I dunno what happened...
