Hi guys, recently I took my F150 update to E4OD to a short trip going mountain up. It was a 1 hour trip going from 1.000 feet to over 2.800 feet so it is a very difficult road, my idea was know how it is shifting.
After just 25 minutes, the tranny temp goes to 220°F and engine temp gets about 205°F but still same values all the way untill we got the top of mountain where it was reduced to normal very fast.
I want know if someone has experience on this kind of very difficult roads and is this tranny temp can be coidered normal, high, very high or....
The engine temp was a little hot because it was needing general tune up, yesterday I serviced carburetor, air/fuel filter, ignition cables and spark plugs and it feels powerfull and fresh as usually, so i guess it should get lower temp if I try again...
Ok, I'm going to work on that. By the way... I had installed an extra cooling radiator for tranny in front of AC condensor but I guess it has no sense because heat is transfered to air and the back to tranny oil throug engine raditor. In my oppinio it should be installed in a different place with enough air circulating...
you might try running your extra cooler after the tranny cooler in the radiator, that way you will loose more heat out of the fluid. Or are you referring to radiant heat transfer from the mounting position? While moving forward, this shouldent be an issue with the air circulation moving from front to back, the tranny cooler being the first for the air to go through. I have a 2300 stall torque converter in my E4OD and have also experienced 220 on long uphills. I run synthetic fluid in it and have not detected any "burnt fluid" smell or discoloration to the fluid. I dont think occasional rises to that temperature for a short period of time are bad. You may want to consider synthetic trans fluid as it wont break down as easy.
Ok, I'm going to test at that same hill again next weekend, I had tune up the engine and reprogram the tranny controller to use a bit more Converter clutch so I guess the Temp will be lower then
