I love my truck, but... I lost the tranny and T/C at 1200 miles and now I lost the accelerator function and about 18k. The truck doesn't yet have 20k and had been towed twice. Oh well.
The latest adventure came on Memorial Day weekend at the lake. Went out to move the truck and it started fine but would not do more than idle. All guages dead. Found a burnt out fuse on "Ignition Star/Run" circuit and replaced that but it popped almost immediately. To rub salt in, the tow truck was a GMC. Been at the dealers since Monday night and they don't know what the problem is. Pulled the chip before I sent it in, not to try and get coverage on the warranty because it is obvious that truck has been chipped and besides if the chip did it then that is my problem (and Diablo's) I don't think the problem is chip related though because pulling it made no difference.
Thank goodness we had taken two vehicles so I could get home.
I just had something simalar to that happen on my bluebird. The speedo worked good but everything else went haywire on me. gagues moveing and the dash beeping at me constantly. The whole instrument cluster had gone bad. We had to send it to the bus dealer and it had cost us around $550. but the new one works great. Then for fun later we ripped the old one apart (to see what makes it tick)
My 2002 Excursion PSD has been at the dealer for the past two weeks now for some sort of computer problem. Whenever i put the truck in reverse - the RPM's would drop real low - and the truck would lunge back if i took my foot off the brakes. It took three diesel techs to fly outta ford HQ's to fix my truck - i am said to get it back today-
Truck has 6000 miles on it...
Well, they fixed it. It was the accelerator pedal electronics. Apparently it had a short. Partially my fault that it had to be towed, as I had noticed a slight sticking in ythe pedal: when I let of the pedal, the truck would slow appropriately but then I would feel a slight tap on my foot as the pedal returned to thje proper position. I was too busy (lazy??) to get it checked out before it went really bad. On a side note, I had added the chip, exhaust and filter all at the same time and could see quite a difference in accceleration in the truck. Prior to the truck getting to the dealers I pulled the chip so as not to confuse the issue. Now I do not see much differrence with the chip out. Can anyone tell me precisely what performance changes they see? Shift points? Can you spin the tires? Top speed? Is ther anything other than a dyno that I can spefically look for to see that the chip is working?
just a note about pulling your chip. once you install the chip it holds a memory code that you had one in there even if you pull it. so be careful the dealer can still blame it on a aftermarket chip.
Oh, yeah I know and you can see the Diablo tape on the computer. I was not tying to hide anything- just did not want the dealer to be confused. I feel strongly that if i modify a vehicle and my mod causes a part or parts to fail, then that is my problem not the dealer's. I would not try for warrantry coverage under those circumstances. Now if the dealer tried to get out of the warranty on the seat leather because I put aftermarket brakes on........
Now I am confused. SThe truck is dead again with the same problem. It starts ok but no acceleration and no guages. Ford just picked it up and sent it to the dealer. This is the third time the truck has been towed in 20k miles. Twice for the accelerator pedal. Has any one else had a problem wiht this part? Should I just give up and buy an aftermarket pedal?
I have a 2002 PSD with a 6sp and I've gone through 3 pedals so far and I had one very brief problem with the one I have now, but hasn't acted up in over 3 months so far. Seems like the pedal factory has QC issues...
Keep all your records and let the dealer ship know that you are familiar with the rules of the lemmon law. You might also vent your complaint with the customer relations people from Ford (their 1-800 number is in your owners manual).
Well, I got my truck back working nicely but not without some adventure. I called the dealer last Thursday to check on progress (truck towed on Wed.) Service writer was very confused: said they couldn't communicate with the PCM. I told him that the truck was chipped but that the problem was not with the PCM or the Chip since this was the second time it had occured and the first time the other dealer ( I was away on vacation) simply replaced the fuse and accelerator control). Ok, then I called on Friday and got transferred to the Service Manager who promptly told me that my warranty was void and that they couldn't fix the truck because it was chipped. I politely but very forcefully explained that I was an attorney and that I knew the law and that I was more than willing to pay for the repair if he or Ford could show that the mods were responsible. I also told him how to pull the chip and said that he could leave it out if he were uncomfortable putting it back in. I further explained the problem causing the trouble: no acceleration, no guages and a blown fuse, all happening at once. On Monday, I called and was told the truck was ready. I went fully expecting to get more grief and a big bill. Instead, to my surprise, the truck was fixed under warranty, no problem. Cause seemed to be a frayed wire from the overdrive button causing a short and blowing the fuse. the first dealer just missed it.
Anyway, I asked to see the Service Manager and thanked him. I told him that the next time I would pull the chip prior to service. He thanked me and said " I don't care if you modify the truck but I would rather not know about it." Fair enough.
Next time thru that town I plan to bring him a case of beer.
