Hood Release Problem

I was jumping my truck (different but simple problem) and snapped the left front pneumatic lift. So, I tucked it back under like it would be when closed and then tried to slam it shut. Now, and I have no way to jump it because I can't get to the battery. The latch did not fully engage when it came down, so I can't release it seemingly. Does anyone have any advise other than putting a forklift under it and forcing it up? It's a 96 6 cylinder if that matters to anyone. Let me know if you have any advise other than to never buy another Autozone Duralast battery (I was desperate.)

I'm sorry, but I don't see the relationship between a hood not opening and a battery.????

no the relationship is between the hood opening and to jump a pos battery witch in turn cause the lift to snap

u might me able to get ur arm up behind the grill to get it open or u might be able to get the grill off and remove the latch

Have you tried unbolting the latch from the hood? Very easy to get to with a small wrench, I think it is an 8 mm bolt head. I would not force the hood, at the very worse, I would get a sawzall and cut the beak or hook on the latch. Because they were a recall item at one time, I think the latches are only $8 from the dealer.

Yes, the hood latch issue came up while trying to jump a POS battery due to the broken pneumatic. And yes, I had to remove the latching mechanism to get the hood up enough for the jump. I was just hoping that there was some easier way to handle it (think of being stuck at work, with only an open 8mm wrench and imagine how much fun it was to remove.) And an hour plus later, I got it running.

Next, on to the alternator. Seems the alternator might be the reason the battery failed. Now, I've had a number of people tell me to remove the negative while running and see if it continues to run or if it dies. Does anyone know if that will fry the computer as one "expert" (autoparts sales guy) told me? It's a 96' EB in case that matters. Any recomendations on replacements if the alternator is gone?

Thanks

Connect your voltmeter to the battery when it's idling, should be about 14 volts.
