Mine did the same thing. I discovered that my girlfriend tried to open it while it was locked which disconnected something. I pressed the lift gate back in on both sides at the same time until I heard a click then it opened.

Sometimes the seal against the window can get dirty and stick. have someone press from the inside as you pull from the outside (or pull harder from the outside) once open clean the rubber seal and the glass.
