Distributor Replacement

I Have #1 Piston At Tdc Compression Stroke And Distributor Won't Seat All The Way With Rotor Pointing At #1 Position Of Cap What Am I Doing Wrong ? Someone Please Help Me Out Thankx

What are we working on here Pete? I think what you are experiencing is the oil pump shaft not engaging the bottom of the distributor. You have several options for that. Pull it back out and make sure that the shaft is "centered" in the hole. Try putting the dist back in, if it don't drop then wiggle the rotor back and forth and it might. If that don't work you could either pull it back out and turn the shaft a little or you could pull it up slightly and turn the dist 1 tooth.( you're trying to engage the shaft with 8 side into the shaft of the dist)

I would agree that the end of the distributor has not engaged the pump shaft. Most likely it has engaged the camshaft gear. I push down on the rotor from the top and hook up my remote start and crank the motor slightly while pushing down. BE sure to have the coil unhooked so the motor won't try and start and the key off, and out of gear or in netural. keep the pressure down and just tap the motor around. You should feel the shaft drop just a little further down.

thanks don i didnt have the remote starter but i turned the crank a little and it fell right in
