I can only think that either it went far too long between having the kingpins changed, it was run without grease, OR the pins were replaced and the person doing it really overheated the spindle with a torch.
I bought these at a wrecking yard for a disc brake conversion on my 66 F-100. Discovered that the spindles were badly gouged out where the thrust bearing rides. Any how, I ended up having a machine shop mill the spindles flat, and then I had them machine a iron washer the same thickness as the material removed from the spindles. Everything was assembled without a problem, and the fix is working great.
