I am new here. I might have posted a long time ago, but recently I purchased a 1967 F100 4x2 shortbox pickup with a 390 and 4spd.
I want to convert it to 4x4 and was wondering if a Dana 44 from a '78-'79 F-150 or bronco would go underneath it? Also what would I do for power steering if this worked.
If this is not possible I have an F-250 Hi Boy frame I can get.
Hi there,
I have never done a conversion before, but from what I have read, you are probably better off getting the F250 Hiboy frame. I've read that converting a 4x2 F250 is more trouble than it's worth.. I'm not sure about converting the F100 whether it's the same deal or not. Seems to me it would be alot easier to swap out the beb cab and front clip onto the F250 Hiboy frame.
Yep, I'd swap everything onto the highboy frame. But the F150 has a different front suspension. I suppose you could go either way (coils or leafs), but leafs is much easier generally. However, since you have all the parts I suppose you could swap those to the highboy frame. But I would go with leafs, which means you'd have to remove the coil buckets from the f150 axle and replace them with spring perches. Are you planning on lifting it well beyond the factory 4' lift? If so, this would affect the perch location. Otherwise, you could go with a stock perch angle. That's what I'd do.
Hey guys, I think it would be easiest to just swap frames now that I've layed underneath the truck an looked it over. I will probably install a minimal body lift just for a little added clearance and a 6" suspension lift.
