Tranny question.
My question is: Its been doing this weird shifting/not shifting thing. I will put it into drive and start to go, then it wont shift into 2nd but will continue to rev untill its out of gear (25mph). If I take it out of drive and put it into 2nd it will go right into second no problem, but when put back into drive it drops into 1st.
Anyone know what might be causing this, my guess right now is the tranny fluid??? I really have no idea what is going on, neither does the mechanic that we took it to.

Delayed Engagement in Reverse & Drive
Step 1
Make sure line pressure isn't too low. Line pressure at an idle should be 74-100 psi in reverse and 55-65 in drive.
Step 2
Remove the engagement control valve spring.
THis is something I have not followed up on with my truck as it bangs into gear once ina while when shifting into reverse or drive. It may be a contributing factor to your probelm. I let you know if mine is still in and what happens if I take it out.
91 you could have a bad TPS that would act sorta like this, don't just go out and buy one though.
Kikr, yours may be a MLPS sensor. Don't just go out and buy one though.
There is a tech guide available at transmission parts houses for about $15 that gives troubleshooting info.
It never hurts to change the fluid and filter, if you do it right. And if you see chunks of metal or clutch plates in the pan, you know you have more serious problems.
There is a transmission forum here at ford-trucks, you may want to search and read there some and maybe ask them.
