Going from an E to a D
I just purchased a F250 CC 2wd that came with 265/75/16 tires (load range E). I wanted to go to a 285/75/16 (load range D) to fill up the fender better. The local tire shop indicated that the F250 calls for an E rated tire and that most brands in the 285 size are D rated. Will a load range D tire affect the ride quality (i.e. squirrelly response) on a truck that ways close to 7000# or is it safe to use this tire. Any positive or negative experiences out there are appreciated.

The increased volume of air in the bigger tires often increases the load capacity of the tire. Check the tire manufacture's website for information about the tire you are looking at. I found data for BF Goodrich, Cooper, Goodyear, and Interco tires easily. For example For BFG Mud Terrain T/A KM's, I found that a E rated 235/85/16 max load was 3042# @ 80 psi, while a 285/75/16 D rated tires max load was 3305# @ 65 PSI.
