dana 44 question
I am in the process of changing the gears in a 79 dana 44 front axle
and can't remove the old gears. I was wondering if there is any trick to removing them or if they should just slide out once i remove the 4 retaining bolts.

The retaining bolts you're talking about, do you mean the bearing cap bolts? The carrier will have a slight interferance fit, so it might not fall out of your hands but be prepared as it's pretty heavy. Once you take those bearing cap bolts off you can pull the carrier.
