razor blades

Those of you who shave with a manual razor, how do you rinse the blade? In a sink of water, or under constantly running water. For some reason I am having a hard time trying to get all of the hair out of the blades

Just run your finger over the blades from the top down and you can pull all the wiskers out. Just don't do it from the bottom up or side to side or you will have bloody fingers!!!

Try knocking it against the side of the sink too.

I shave in the shower, so obviously I just rinse it under the shower head. I got tired of my wife yelling at me becuase of the sink having a two day growth...

I use hot running water, and tap it against the sink. I read somewhere that if you keep your razor blade in rubbing alcohol when not in use, they stay sharper longer, and helps when rinsing out the stuck hair.

I don't use alcohol though. I should try it sometime.

I've tried keeping it in alcohol and the blades rust and tapping against the sink to hard can bend the blades and chop up your face. I'm glad I only shave once a week, I hate shaving!

I shave with a barber's (straight) razor... it's pretty easy to keep clean. When I finish, I wipe the blade down with a piece of paper to remove the whiskers, then dry it off by patting it dry with a hand towel. A blade usually lasts for about a week with me.

Amen to the shaving once a week! I use a beard trimmer to shorten the hair before using the razor so it does not clog up as much.

ill take and set a washcloth next to the sink, and wipe the razor top down on it, and it does a good job of gettin the hair out

I installed a NorthStar air compressor (37 CFM @ 90 PSI--their #2 model)) behind my toilet and use that to pneumatically eject wayward hairs from my razor. It serves double-duty, of course; when hooked up to my AirJohn Impact Plunger I can quickly clear any toilet clogs. The subsequent cleaning of poopy water from the walls and ceilings takes a bit longer, but that's progress for you.

Why does rinsing the blade with cold water help you get a better shave? I usually rinse it with hot water, but then at the end rinse my face with cold water, supposedly it closes up your pores or whatever. Does it help keep the blade more rigid or something?
