I just tried to install the Superchip I purchased from the sponsor of this site. I have an "early" 1999 7.3L. After removing the cable harness connectors (3 not one as instructions specified) and the 3 bolts holding the computer in its frame, I could not pull the computer away from the firewall. I applied just about all the muscle I had. Has anyone encountered this problem OR more importantly, is there something else securing the computer? I don't want to be buying a new computer for sure!
Thanks for any help.
Dennis
Disconnect the wiring harness from the computer. The harness is accessed from under the hood near the firewall and the driver's side fender. There will be a 10mm bolt in the middle of the harness. Loosen the bold and disconnect the harness (the bolt stays in the harness). From the inside of the cab, locate the computer near the parking brake assembly. Remove the 10mm nut at the bottom of the metal brack. Removed the two 7mm screws holding the plastic cover to the metal bracket near the backside of the computer.
Put the computer straight out from its location, from inside the cab.
Color me stupid! I called Robert from Performance Chips of Utah and he pointed out that I had the wrong wiring harness. Again, I prove that I should never touch a wrench! Everyone have a great weekend!
