I have a 2000 Eddie Bauer Expedition and was wondering how the lights work in the running boards as they were not working when i bought the vehicle.
Do they stay on when lights are switched on or do they come on when doors open? Also what color should they be and how easy is it to change the bulbs, any help would be apprieciated.
Thanks Colin.
If none of them are working, I'd start by looking for a blown fuse or bad wiring as I doubt all the bulbs blew simultaneously.
They operate the same as the dome lighting. The bulb color is clear/white, but you can buy just about any color replacement. To remove the bulbs, look on the underside of the boards where the wires enter. There is a little screw or bolt holding them in place.
The running board lights should come on when the doors are opened or when you put the interior lights on. The lights are easy to replace. Look under the boards, near each end and you will see a plastic plate being held in place by 1 screw. Remove the screw and plate, then twist the bulb socket 1/4 counter-clockwise and remove. The bulb should then just pull straight out. With the bulb out, you can test the socket with a multi-meter. When you replace the bulb, make sure the socket is clean and you should put a nice dab of di-electric grease on the bottom of the bulb to keep out water, etc... The bulb came as a clear bulb but you can put colored bulbs as well as super-whites which are nice (they don't have the yellowish glow of regular bulbs).
