Just wondering if there we any free or Big Lots style cheap mods out there ???? Just bought a 1715, so anything to help lighten its cost is appreciated. Thanks.
Ebay is loaded with a $20 mod that tricks your computer into thinking the engine is still cold and adding extra fuel. All I see in the cheap mods is lower fuel mileage. You can bypass the muffler on yours to get more sound and maybe more performance. I had a hypertech on my 99 V10 but i just put it up for sale on Ebay. You might find better mods there for less money than a new one.
Do not do that mod. It is basically a cheap resistor that will eventually kill your cat converters. Do a search it has been talked about numerous times in the past week alone in several of the forums here. From what I have seen cheap is not necessarily good. It is either a scam or counterfeit parts that are not up to quality levels. Cheapest way I have seen to mod the truck is to get a good repoire with a merchant (buy all your stuff from one person) and maybe have a couple guys buy stuff together to get a group discount. Then install yourself.
Sorry to say, you can try all the cheap mods you want, but you won't get hardly anything out of the current V10 - It's basically maxed out from Ford.....UNLESS.. of course you go the supercharger way, but that is far from cheap...
I bought a 1715 and wow, what a waste of $$$ - rather'd spent the money on visual or exhaust (for the sound) mods...sold it on Ebay to some other sucker...

Notice how the Superchips listing for the 1715 in motorhaven no longer lists the HP and Torque increases - that's because they are soooo small - Can't remember for sure, but it was somewhere around 20-30 HP and and I think around 40-45 lbs. of torque - whatever...I highly doubt anyone can feel 30 hp under their foot. A dyno might show the increase, but if you want to smoke that 8.1 Cheby pulling a trailer (yes, real Superduty work) with a V10 then you need big increases like the PSD can get. i.e. 100+ HP and 200+ lbs. of torque.
Sorry, but I'm just bitter that I had to blow $350 for the 1715 and plugged it in expecting a increase like I knew when I programmed my 5.7 Chev Tahoe (that was an increase) - It didn't happen not too mention that the 1715 options where not ALL available due to whatever reason (like adjusting speedo for tire size)....
This is my reason for ordering a new 05 6.0 and putting a full Banks system on it - then, Cheby and Dudge - bring it on baby!!!
