You remove the exhaust backpressure valve to open up the exhaust system a little more. It helps performance a little from what I've heard and won't effect the truck. The only downside is that when it's cold you won't have it there to help warm up the truck, but you live in AZ so you don't need it.
Any one know about this mod? What does it do ? Does it hurt the truck? Does it help the performance? Give me some info please.
Thanks Guys
Fire Rooster
It won't hurt it. But you will burn the bridge behind you for winter warm ups. But as stated since you live where its warm, may not matter very much. Before you do, have you considered just disconnecting it? As I understand it, disconnecting the two wire harness under the turbo pedestal laeves it in wide open mode.
Have you done this mod? If so what about the trips up north where it does get cold? Does it just take a little longer to warm up? How about tow performance Does it affect it? Better worse? Does it lower my EGT's
jadel, yes, that's a result of this valve being closed.
Fire Rooster, no I haven't done this mod. I've only lived in TX for less than 1 year, moving here from CT. I'm not sure how long I'm going to be living in warm weather so I'm going to leave mine in place.
There is no down side to gutting the EBV, the engine will warm up the same as it always has, the EGT's will go down, and the potential will be there for the turbo to spool up a little better.
It's kind of the same deal as removing the Intake Air Heater, and rerouting the CCV, it dosen't neccessarily add any power, but by clearing the intake and exhaust of all possible restrictions you open up the door.
