Do tips effect the sound at all, or are they there just to look fancy. I was thinkin about gettin straight pipes with sum tips, but i don't know what size tips would sound best on a big390. Im not lookin for a big hollow sound i want loud and powerfulllllll!!!
yes they will affect the sound and tone...if they are large enuf. if u want it kinda hollow sounding, id try like a 22x4" tip, or 22x3.5". i have 18x3.5" magnaflow 15* rolled tips and they are nice looking, and mellowed it out just enuf for me.
with the exhaust i just had ran on my 72 f-100 360 it contains: headers, 2 1/2" plumbing, flowmaster 40's, 4"x18"tips...i love the sound of it...its loud but sounds sweet.
they just have a clamp on the end of the tip that u clamp onto the end of ur exhaust pipe. i wouldnt recommend them...i've heard of ppl having them fall off cuz they cant get em tight enuf. id recommend the weld on style....just my $.02
could you bolt it and weld it on? would it make my truck louder? I just have a stock exhaust system. and would I have to shorten the stock exhaust tips before I put them on?
if your pipe is the same size diameter as the inlet of the tip, u should be able to weld it as well as clamp it. in which case, u may as weld it on and forget about the clamp IMO.
if ur exhaust is stock i would really doubt any louder tones from it. it will just make it look a little nicer at the end of it. if u want it louder...u should replace the muffler also. depending on how big the tip is, it may make it a little deeper and/or throatier...but a new muffler would help.
u may have to shorten the pipe depending on how far it sticks out. if it doesnt stick out very far, u may be able to get away with puttin it on.
i am not an expert at exhaust/exhaust systems...but i try to do my part.
