help with getting trans out
the manuel says NOTHING about dropping the gas tank. it must be talking about a 2WD truck. but when my dad and brother went to take the tranny out, they noticed the tank would have to come out. is this true? it would be easier just takeing the engine out instead of all the manuel says and the tank.
What year is it? Just curious, but I really doubt the gas tank needs to come out. Pull the driveshaft (indexing, of course) and the rest should come out. Sometimes, if you have the facilities, it is easier to pull the engine and transmission. Just a lot easier to work standing up, instead of under the frame on your back, where grease and dirt drips in your eyes. When you say flex plate, are you referring to the clutch disc?
No, the flexplate. Run your cursor over to the signature and a pop-up window will show you that it's an auto.
Spend some time playing with the new format here and you'll be amazed at all the nifty features!

alright. were going to take it out again this weekend. and if we have to pull the tank i'll do when my dad isn't looking. thanks. hes the one that doesn't want to drop the tank and have someone do it for 400 bucks
I realize you have an auto trany, but you can try doing what I did on my 5sp when I pulled it. Remove the bolts on the "U" bracket where the front and rear drive shafts meet. (I have a 2 piece drive shaft I don't know if yours is the same) This lets the shaft bend in the center abit. Unbolt the shaft from the trans yolk, and remove the bolts on the rear trans mount. Now with some jackstands, a jack and some wood blocks support the tail of the trans and drop the trans cross member. If the auto is anything like this you should be able to just slide it back and out from there. Removing the other junk too, starter, bellhousing bolts, etc...... Hope this helps.
