put a better cam in it with a timing set that you can set to straight up timing as a '78 400 is retarted from the factory to meet emmisions. Flat top pistons

4 barrel intake with matched carb and some headers and you should be good to go, my buddy did this to his and it sure is enough to smoke some ricers
