Overdrive ???????'s
I've got a '96 full sized Broncho with the 351ci. Problem: when driving at freeway speeds and using the cruise, the overdrive disengages when pulling a hill (which it should), but does not disengage after topping the hill. In order to disengage, you have to hit the overdrive button (light on), and then hit it again (light off). Or tap the "Coast" button.
Any body have this problem? Or have a solution?
With tranny problems, the first easiest thing to check is the tranny dipstick. Pull it out with the tranny warm and the engine idling. Check the level of the fluid, and check the color of the fluid.
New fluid will be bright pink.
Older fluid will be dark red.
Burn't fluid will be very dark and or brown, and stink like it's burnt.
I am thinking possibly your fluid might be old and causing the valve in the tranny to stick?
Hope that's a little clearer. I'll check dipstick when my wife gets home with it.
