Ok, I know there have been numerous threads on this, and I have searched many of them, but here goes. I have an 01 F350 4wd 5.4L and would like to put a 2.5 in leveling kit on the front. I already have the snow plow package front springs so I'm guessing it might actually raise it too much (higher than the rear). I assume I could compensate for that by putting a 1 in or 2 in add-a-leaf in the rear. I'm trying to make it so I can easily clear 305s without ANY rubbing, even off road.
I like the looks of the Tuff Country 2.5 in kit. Is it any good? They also make the add-a-leafs for the rear, 1 or 2 in. Are there other, better manufacturers that make the spring pack lift kits? I think I want to go with some sort of a spring pack. I want it to be a good, solid lift and don't mind if it rides a little stiffer. I also want to retain the stock length shocks, front and rear. Any input is greatly appreciated.
You want to go with a spring lift in the front for 2"? Well one option you could do is use 4" springs. Lets see, if your X springs ride 2" taller than stock trucks, and you want to go 2" higher.. then I think a 4" lift wouuld be about what you want?....
If you just want a leveling kit you have many options for add-a-leafs for both the front and the back - and they will indeed stiffen up your ride. Several companies like edge and jack-it make mini spring pack deals that bolt under the factory two springs. Not sure how much lift they give but I think it is around 2". If I were you I would either go with a hanger leveling kit for just the 2" to keep the nice ride and a block in the back OR just go with a complete 4" lift kit.
The X springs that came on my truck don't really seem to be 2 inches higher than non-X spring trucks. I think they're a little higher, but the truck still does not sit level. The only reason I mentioned the rear is because I'm afraid that a full 2.5 in leveling kit might actually bring the front up a little too much. An add-a-leaf in the rear would compensate for this and also give me a little more clearance back there. According to my measurements, my truck is about 1.5-2 inches higher in the rear even with the snow plow package in the front. Make any sense?
Maybe if you add it all up it comes to 4 inches but I really don't want a "whole" lift kit. If I start with the stock suspension and don't go with more than 2.5 inches up front, I think I can get away with keeping the stock shocks and various other components. That way the only replacement part would be the track bar bracket which is included in the leveling kit. Correct me if I'm wrong here. I've quite frequently been known to be an idiot...
If you will search for info on add-a-leaves you might find that they will squeek and stuff over time. This may not annoy you, some people it does. I ran two add-a-leafs up front for about six months before getting my 8" lift. No real problems eccept over time they began to squeek. I can't deal with that. This gave me almost 4" of lift up front and to compensate I put a 4.5" block in the back. It was perfect height for 35's, never rubbed. But it squeeked!
I think that if you are looking for something long term then you should probably go with a hanger. You can get a 2" hanger for around 2-300$ and you really shouldn't need to change the back. Or at least you could wait on the back until after you finished the front to see if you want to. That would probably be a good way of going aboust it. The hangers arn't going to cause wear problems down the line, won't change your spring rate too. Here is a link with lots of great information on hanger lifts, manufactures too. Hanger Lift Thread
Good Luck, and just remember do whatever looks good to you.
I've only had my add-a-leafs for a month or so and they're squeaking already!! I'm gonna have to take the weight of the truck off the springs and try to pry the leaf down and get some grease in there or something. If you can, go with the hanger brackets then you KNOW you will still like the way your truck rides and you won't have any REALLY annoying sqeaking issues!
Instead of starting a new thread, and since I have done multiple searches and read everything, but there is still not a clear answer.
For all those that have done hanger lifts only (at least first) Do you need any additional parts, like the trackbar, shocks, etc. for up to a 3.5 Hanger Kit?
Who has the best prices?
So far the best Fabtech price I can find is $473.00, any other good options?
