El Paso is 300 miles further than Chicago from Texarcana Texas.
It is 1100 road miles from Dalhart to Brownsville. If you decide to drive across Texas, beter pack a lunch and a sleeping bag.
Just East of Ft. Bliss is a state park by the name of Hueco Tanks. It has lots of ancient petroglyphs. It will make a nice outing for a couple of guys that like easy rock climbing.
