I rebuilt my 351 M out of my 78 ford f-150 last March before I got deployed to Iraq for a year. I had to order a head from AZ because one of mine was cracked and when I put everything together and started it up I bent all the push rods on the head i had ordered . It sat for a year just like that and when i got home a month ago I started working on it again and i had the head checked out from a machine shop and they measured it and said the valve stems were to long and that is why the rods bent. AZ got me a new head and all the parts I needed to get it back together. Yesterday when i was working on it I noticed that rocker arms are loose on the side of the new head and not so much on the other head. What is the tolerance (sp) with something like this, they are supposed to be self adjusting. My father says i should just finish it and see what happens but if i do that and the bend again or worse then im really screwed. Any Ideas guys!
Do a search here on lifter pre-load. You need to measure/adjust yours. There have been several posts describing various acceptable methods. Is your dad a politician?
