Unhappy Problems with my Bronco

I recently bought a 1990 Eddie Bauer Full Size Bronco...Well, 2 weeks ago, I thought I'd test the 4wd out on a local chat dump. All was well until I started to head back toward the main road...Before I even went back to 2wd, there was a horrible smell, and then smoke started coming out of the dashboard. I then found out that one of the 12v-30 fuses had ended up smouldering some foam and melted a small portion of my fuse box.

Now my headlights, horn, cruise control, radio, cigarette lighter, dome light, and door locks don't work. I was going to temporarily put a new fuse in, but the prongs to the old one are stuck up in there, and now I can't drive after dark!

Anyone have any ideas what might have caused this, how to fix it, or....Where to get a fuse box? I've looked at salvage yards, and I can't find one anywhere!

Any and all help is appreciated.

It sounds like somebody (previous owner) had an electrical problem and solved it by installing the quick fix BIGGER FUSE. Something definetly shorted, but the fuse should have blown before it got to that point! You just got to go through the system and check for dead shorts. I would start with any aftermarket accesories like lights or anything else that had been added on. That is probably a dealer part! You can check with painless wiring and see what they got, but dealer would be your best bet. What the heck is a chat dump?

At least you didn't end up with a burned shell, happened to my friends Ford truck. Looks like you can just hook up a new fuse box and go from there. -BBB

Thanks, it'd be greatly appreciated lifted88...I can't wait.

Oh, and ALSAIR, a chat dump is an enormous deposit of sand that was left near the local lead mines. The mines are all shut down, but the "chat dumps" still remain...people can go 4-wheeling on them...if they're not caught (some are private property...shh!) ...and then there is a race track on one....check it out at bigriversanddrags.com....

I'll check back later, guys...

Thanks!
