One-wire gm-type alternator install
After days of thinking and some struggle, the frozen pivot bolt on my stock alternator was freed from the massive corrosion which made it immobile. As some had suggested, Kroil helped, as did "rocking" the bolt. All that effort made it seem more than worthwhile to upgrade. A 2003 tech article on installing a single-wire alternator was most helpful. However, I couldn't find the article-recommended lower mounting bracket, so I just assembled a few miscellaneous slide brackets from old Fords and put together a sturdy substitute. Also, of note is a typo in the article regarding diameter of the alternator's mounting bolt hole. The hole must be reamed or redrilled to accept a 7/16" diameter bolt, not 7/18". Therefore, the gm hole is not 1/2" as indicated, but is smaller than the Ford bolt. At least that's how it was on the re-man 63-amp unit I got.
