When to Flash ??

I've been reading about these Flashes and understand what they're suppose to do. My question is, how do I know whether I'm due for a flash.

Does this come in the form of a recall ??

My engine build date is 10/03.

Thanks in advance.

You could only wish Ford would call or notify you!!

You only get a flash or checked for one if you complain about specific problems that there is a remedy for. How do you know if there is a remedy... it's by researching this and other sites for information.

After researching, you will know if your truck is suffering any of the problems or what you think is a problem is indeed a problem.

Go to the following site and scroll down the list. First page is 2003 motors, then 2004's then Econolines. Each flash has what it is to correct. Sometimes they correct and sometimes they don't... cavet emptor (buyer beware)!!!

Good luck,

Akespy: You should receive a notice in the mail only if the flash is a mandatory recall type of thing.. I believe the december/03 flash was that way.

And I believe (correct me if my perception is flawed) that by "mandatory", it is required only if one wants to keep the truck's warranty in force.

Well, in the case of the last flash, I believe it was mandatory for emission reasons. I'm not sure about the warranty issue...

I'm not sure that that has been confirmed. From initial review, my understanding was that Ford used that phrasing (and from my perception, it was) to convince the customer to bring in the truck for the re-flash, while there has been no notification from, atleast here in California. This perception has been supported by input from some truckers here on this site, indicating that when they went to re-register their trucks, the state deparment of Motor Vehicles did not require any documentation regards the "Ford's noticed emission requirement".

Just A Thought...............on...............My Perceptions................
