F-100 302 header help

I know this is a stupid question that has probibly been asked and answered a million times, but I'm stuck. I decided to go with headers and a 2.5 inch exaust on my 73 f-100 302 longbed 2wd. Here's the problem, I ordered the dynomax #85057 header set, because of price, but when I got to installing them they would not fit. The drivers side runs straight into the shift arm on the trans, and the pass. side hits the starter, trans. cooling lines etc. I do not mind some modification, but moving the starter, and the trans. shift input arm is more than I think should have to be done. On the other side of this is that my buddy has a 74 Bronco 4wd with the same engine, trans setup. His pass. side tubes stay above the starter, then drop down behind it, and the drivers side clears the shift linkage no prob. Unfortunattly he picked his up at a swap meet years ago, and just got lucky, and I can't find any number or even make stamped into them. My real question is what headers fit this truck, should I try a better quality set that is listed for my truck, or should I order Bronco, Mustang or ? Thank you, Dennis

I would opt for a higher quality set of headers to get better fitment. You should be able to order headers made for your truck that just bolt on, no chopping. Check with Thorley and see if they have a set, nice tri Y design.
