Shocks?

I'm in need of new shocks on my F150. I want good heavy duty shocks that will help stabilize when I'm pulling my gooseneck trailer. I'm only going to replace the rear two shocks. What are some good brands, types?

There's always air shocks.

Or try buying overload springs, with OE quality shocks

If you want stiffness for heavy loads, Ranchos are good RSX 5000s, or 9000s (adjustable). For a smooth ride, then you should get nitro shocks-ie, Bilsteins or Edelbrocks. But for supporting your current suspension there are airbags, Add-a-leafs, and overload springs...
Sounds like you need airbags, but that would be about 300, so if you dont want to spend the money, get the ranchos or add-a-leafs...

Yeah, I'm thinking about the Rancho RSX 5000s, but I thought they were off-road shocks? Will they hold up with the load? The price dosen't sound too bad for them.

My second recomended choice that I heard was to get Monroe Gas-Magnum Truck Shocks. What is the difference between the two? I don't know about shocks and really dont know what to look for. Any past experience with these two types of shocks?

I wouldn't say that the Bilsteins are only for a smooth ride, they do provide it but they will also help towing. They are plenty stiff. Just put them on my 99 F-150, as well as my fathers 94 E-150 high-top conversion van (it also always has an extra 600-700#'s in it-plus passengers). The van had LOTS of sway (it reminded me of the '84 suburban I drove at work for a while-NOT a compliment). After the Bilsteins it still isn't a racecar, but now it only leans once and goes back to center instead of pitching the other way. They are also awesome off-road shocks. In my experience they will do you as well or better than anything other shock. unless your only changing 2 because of $$ reasons replace all 4, it will help even more on towing. They're made to work together.I you want heavier shocks stay away from monroe or Gabriel of any sort.

The option of replacing them all is out of the picture since I have quads up front. So it looks like I'm gonna get the Monroe Gas Magnums. If I wanted some off-road shocks I would go Rancho RS500s.
