I've had an annoying problem with my truck since new, I have about 1/2" of dead spot at the pedal before power is applied... ok, so that's normal and sucks. Fine...
However, sometimes I don't, it makes life interesting when I expect the dead spot at a stop sign and it's not there... I've bounced my head off the back of the seat a few times. Not often, in 10k miles it's happened maybe 5 or 6 times, mostly in the past 3000 miles.
NOW... the other morning, I cranked her up and started to back up... more power, more power... oh... stupid I forgot the parking brake. So I lifted my foot from the pedal the engine immediately went to idle, then 1200RPMs, then idle, the 1200RPM's about 5 or 6 times... vroom, vroom, vroom, then settled to an idle and has not done it again.
Now... I'm thinking the pedal might be failing, but I wanted to wave this in front of all you guys that know more than I to see if you concur or if I might be missing a potentially serious problem...
Harryball, mine did it once also. I was on and off the fuel quickly and it sort of surged like you describe one time. I assumed there was a little extra fuel shot in and it was just coincidence. It has not happened again though, but it sounds like what you experienced. I am just thinking that I may see future problems when I rack up more miles. I'll follow to see how you make out.
Check your throttle assembly. mine wouldn't send a signal while driving so you're cruising along at 50 mph then suddenly it feels like you're out of fuel. I had 3 of them replaced on my 02. Hope this helps.
throttle assembly... you mean the stuff under the pedal in the floor or the stuff on top of the engine under the hood?
It is often better to sit in the back of the room quiet and let people think you are dumb than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. :-) I think Mark Twain said something to that effect.
The actual peddle. If you look at your peddle it is mounted with a couple bolts and has a bunch of wires coming out of it. Shouldn't you still be under warrantee? By the way, PSD is a drive by wire, there is no cable that goes to the engine unlike gassers, they are totally electronically controled.
Yeah, I know about the infamous drive by wire peddle. Just wanted to be sure I was clear... when I hear "throttle assembly" I still picture the thing on the other end of the cable on those old cars, you know the ones from the late 1990s :-)
I am under warranty... but have had very little luck with dealer repair shops. I already have random access 4x4 shift on the fly that is "Normal Operation Noted" and "Could not reproduce customer concern". My experience has been unless it is wrenched off and laying in the bed of the truck, smoking or on fire, they can't find it.
If it continues to get worse, I'll video tape it, or if it fails all together take it in.
