On my 99 f250 v10, when I use the cruise control I will press the "set" button to increase the speed. Well it does increase the speed like I want it to but it will stumble, You can feel the pickup slow down for a brief second and then speed up. Is this normal or is there a vaccum leak somewhere. thanks
mine does somthing similar. i'll be driving and turn on the cruise contol for the fisrt time, and it slows down first like you said... but then it feels like the truck kicks it self in the butt and takes off... it almost feels like the truck is flooring itself, then it passes the speed i wanted by like 5mph, then slows down and goes slower by about 3 or or and then gasses up again and is a little over then slows down to the right speed.
its almost like the truck just doesnt know how do work itself.
i had it in the shop for somthing completly different and had them look at the cruise control, and they said its all normal. i told them it might not be broken, but i dont think that it is by any means normal.
when you set your cruise and let off the gas, your truck needs to suddenly try to keep the speed you wanted, thats what the stumble is. It is trying to catch up and keep your set speed. hope that helps alittle. On a diesel ,there is no vacuum, and it is throttle by wire. I am not sure if there is still a cable on gas trucks.
On my 01 F150 when I set my spd control it would drop 1-3 mph then rev the engine up trying to get to the set speed. On my 04 F250 I have been setting my speed control and holding my foot on the petal for about 30 sec. Once I take my foot off the speed does not change. When I hit hills my truck would slow down 1-3 mph depending on steepness and slowly try to get back to setting. However, sometimes it does not make it and just hovers a little below. Unlike my F150 I would have to disengage my speed control if it was a really long and steep hill because it would redline the engine it I did not stop it.
also, when the cruise is on and i want to accel a little i'll pugh the accel (set i believe is what it is) button and it will drop like one mph and then gun it like i said before. it isnt so bad at highway speeds. it is the worst when its around 20 or 25. that when my wife calls me a nut, then i have to try and blame it on the truck.
