Doe Ford own Cummins or is this just a rumor? If Ford does own Cummins why don't they use them in their trucks? Is it due to contract obligations (Dodge/Cummins) (Ford/Navistar)? Just wondering.
Ford does not own Cummins. But, you can get a Cummins as a special otion in your Ford medium and heavy duty trucks. You can also get a CAT motor when you start into the heavy duty market also.
>The unsubstantiated rumor that refuses to die....
No kidding!
Now, Daimler/Chrysler Corp. owns:
Mercedes Benz
Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth
Freightliner Corp.
Detroit Diesel Corp.
Western Star Trucks
Sterling(Formerly Ford Heavy Truck)
American LaFrance
Contractually, You would think Dodge would have Detroit Diesel engines in their light trucks, but they are under contract with Cummins, and Ford Heavy Truck got swallowed up by Freightliner about the same time that Roger Penske sold his share of Detroit Diesel Corp. to Freightliner, which is owned by Daimler/Chrysler who also owns Mercedes, who make Diesel Engines as well. I hope this confused You...I tried
i dont think the cummins will be in there much longer since daimler takeover, why would one of the best diesel engine manufacturers want to buy diesels when their techs can design one in house ?
