I have a home video of the tractor pulls and whatch them over and over again. I love watching the black smoke just pour. My question is how do these guys running their trucks the way they do deal with high egt's or do they care. They have to be fryin it. Why do the 98-02 cummins motors blow so much more smoke?
my friend pulls a 1998 12V cummins making bout 600 hp at the wheels....the needle on his pyro gets burried while he is pullin, but like Dave said....he only goes 300 feet (well, more like 250 or so--heh heh heh) at a time, so it doesnt do much damage. Not to mention the fact that he has a five inch exhasut turbo back and a HUGE Holset turbo (Hx 55 ????????????) so it keeps those hot gasses flowing pretty good!!!
Wannaburn,
98-02 Dodges blow more black smoke compared to what?
Most of the truck and tractor pull guys do not care about engine life.....they wanna out pull everything else at the meet. That is the only thing important to them, everything else is second place.
My 86 6.9 used to make Macks jealous when I took off. Ran good but sure cut the life down on the motor.
