I just got my 66' service manuals and was decoding my truck. The tran code says "I" or possibly 1. My truck has niether. It has a 4 speed. It sure seems original to the truck as does the tranny. It also calls it a F-251 rated for 1/2 ton. My truck has eight lug wheels & large stack of springs....any input would be apprec.
F25= F-250 4x2
Y= 352 2V
L= Michigan truck plant
735260= assembled 1966 model yeAR
Color W= Medium Blue
F251=F-250 4x2
B81= Conventional cab
Trans I or1 ??? Should be A or F for NP 435 or T18 or T98
Axle B4 ??? Should have a code such as 26K or similar 3 digit code
DSO 12= Buffalo sales district
Re-check the 2 codes, trans and axle. Sometimes they are stamped slightly off from where they should be. The ones I didn't list, ( wheelbase and rpm HP and GVW) are self explanitory. Hope this helps you.
Thanks for your help, I checked again, still looks like a "I" (even had a younger set of eyes ckeck it out) I don't think it is a new process. I guess it was a misprint or somthing. After I pull the motor and trans. I'll know more. Thanks again. I'm sure I'll be pickin your brain again as this project goes on.
OK I went out and checked the rear axle, I looked on the diff. cover ...no tag anywhere. A previous owner put a "chrome" cover on it and prob. never put put it back on. any other ways to Id it? Thanks.
Regarding the differential, came across an article not, sure if much help but interesting, you may want to take a look at. Unfortuately, can't teach old dogs new tricks if i knew anything about computers would have linked the web page to this post. Almost certain the article is from one of the FTE post. Anyhow, in a round about way www.kevinstang.com then open 'My 9" rear end identification page.
Not sure if any help, but interesting. Suggest running search on topic and see what you come up with. There is a post in the 'brake, steering, steering forum by 94I-6 dated 10/16/03 "axle code" where member packlet left couple web site referrals on the topic. You will find the various FTE forums a warehouse of valuable info, suggest save some of those you may want to refer to later.
Anyhow, good luck
dave
