I bought a black brush guard for my F150 on e-bay that was billed as "excellent condition". Upon arrival, it is a little more "used" than I had hoped. I am gpooing to keep it, but it has lost its shine a little bit and besides being clean, still appears dirty because of this. Is there a good cleaner/polish for this? It is just metal with semi-gloss paint. I want it to shine more and I don't want to paint it.
I just installed a Westin Safari Bar on my '04 Ranger a few months ago. It has the gloss black finish, and the instruction book that came with it said to use plain automotive wax on the bar whenever you wash and wax the rest of the vehicle. They say it's to protect the finish and make it shine. As for cleaning it, I am not sure if it will harm the finish of the bar, but have you tried rubbing compound? My dad swears by the stuff on his vehicles, and as long as the bar is painted, it shouldn't harm the paint any.
Someone painted mune before I got it and now it is peeling and I want to strip it and try to polish it. The sides are chrome and the 2 cross bars are alum and I wanted to know what should I do
Try Klasse All-In-One and then do a top coat of Klasse Sealant Glaze.
It sounds like the paint has oxidized. The AIO will take care of the oxidation and the Glaze will protect it. Rubbing compound it MUCH more aggressive than the AIO.
Rule of thumb is start with the finer cut and then move up to the chain to more aggressive ones. I would never start with compound. There may be some spots that need it but not the entire thing. After you do the AIO, see how it looks and go from there.
