All, I just replaced the fuel filter on my 2k PSD and I had a few questions.
1st I used a NAPA filter. $20.53 out the door, is this still considered a good quality replacement filter?
2nd How often are all of you replacing the fuel filters on your rigs, and what would you suggest?
I replaced the filter, attached the new O-rings and installed the black threaded cap, verified all O-rings were with the old filter, started the truck and checked the system for leaks. I had two, leaks that is. After I tightened the cap a bit more the leaks stopped.
3rd Is their a torque spec/requirement for that fuel bowl top cap? I tightened it snug, but it is not bottomed out on the fuel filter bowl. Does it need to be?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated… Jeff in NM…OUT
Some call it a six pack, I call it a support group.

1ST NAPA is a good part, however if you go to www.forddiesel.com you will be able to buy them, and a lot more, from there at a good price and keep a couple on hand just in case.
2ND The book says 15,000 miles on a filter change. When you reinstall the cover, hand tighten snugly but donot over tighten. Make sure its tightened enough not to leak.
3RD There is no torque specs that I know of and nothing in the book that I've seen.
My opinion only of course, but I recommend the Racor fuel filter. It's original equipment. Available at a lot of places, but the best I've found for price is Diesel Injection Service. They're also the best place I've found to get Stanadyne Performance Formula.
Like I said, my opinion only.
bud , my $.02 worth , i hae had the best luck with a WIX fuel filter , though it lists for around $58 , usualy you can buy it for around $40 . The best in my opinion.....
Please use a genuine Ford filter, lube the o-ring with clean oil and tighten the cap until the plastic contacts the aluminum, hand tight is enough, follow the owners manual for the intervals. Or go to www.fleet.ford.com and click on "maintenence"
I change my fuel filter and air filter every 12 to 15,000 miles----I use a fairly large pair of channel locks inserted into those little plastic squares on top of the lid to remove and retighten the LID----i also use WIX filters(fuel and air) as they are fairly hiquality units I believe!!!---the oil filter is about 17 as i remember---the air is significantly higher--don't remember exactly , fd
let me give you city boys some help......most of these filter have either a 3/8 or 1/2 square in the middle so you take your socket wrench (3/8 or 1/2 drive) and put it on there tighten it as tight up till it hits the aluminum

There is no square in the middle of the 01 fuel filter lid!!
Owners manual say's to use a strap wrench!
I use the butt end of a pair of pliers or channel locks cuz my strap wrench is made for filters that are at least 3.5 inches in length or longer.
the question I had to ask, as per oil filter where you need to fill it with oil to prevent it from self imploding, does one need to fill the filter with diesel fuel before replacing it back in place , or can one just screw it on without any ill effect, I am thinking air on fuel injection issues here.. any thoughs?
In my opinion , if you install the new filter without filling it with fuel , you have a certain quantity of air in there that will be forced into the system as the fuel pump refills the new filter with fuel and consequently that air must be purged from the system----I not familiar with how well your year model of truck can deal with the air------My 99 psd is designed to purge the air but I choose to fill the filter anyway----if i was you I would fill the filter everytime i changed the filter .........fd
