I just got to thinking about the possibility of changing over from a 5spd to an automatic in my 96 F350 4x4 and was wondering would it be possible to use an allison auto from a 4300 series international?
I am looking for an all around trans for city and interstate sriving and monthly fourwheeling. The heaviest I tow is about 10000lb trailer, more commonly about 6k.
Any suggestions about the conversion would be appreciated
The 4300 is about 30,000 GVW isn't it? The transmission would probably be a MD3060 I think. Very large and heavy. It is possible but floor pan mods would be necessary and you would have to figure out the transfer case.
There is also the possiblity of the 1000/2000/2400 series all of which share the same case and are appropriately sized (Chevy pickups use them) but I have not heard of anyone doing this. Probably because they are not that much superior and an E4OD/4R100 can be built plenty strong with a few thousand bucks, much less than an adaptation.
