I'm usually looking at the 1948-1960 board cuz I have a '56. My son is lusting over a '71 in a neighbor's back yard though so I figured I'd get over here and ask a question or two...
What were the engine options for a '71 F100? I'm thinking they were the 300-6 and the 360, 390 and ??? V8s. Were there 302s in them too? I don't know what is in this truck yet and my son is a rookie on this for sure. I have final say as to whether it gets put in my front yard (no more rusty wrecks allowed! ) and we know it needs at least some engine work to be driveable.
Yes Graig your right!! No 302.....the most popular was either the 360 or the 390 two and 4V... The 360 has the same bore 4.050 as the 390 Just shorter stroke!!
And you can change the 360 easly over to a 390 with the 390 crank, rods.and pistons, And if the 360 allready has the slipper pistons in it..you wont need 390 pistons!
Lots of great responses!
So, from the above (or below as the case may be) I see the choices were the 240-6, 302, 360 or 390. I would have thought the 300-6 was the standard by then, but don't really have any idea when that change happened.
My son at first said it was a six and then thought it was an eight. Maybe we'll get a look at it this weekend. Has to be a quick fix or I'm not fronting him the money. The Boy has a tendency to put the cart before the horse when it comes to things he thinks he really wants. Hmmm, I wonder where he gets that? Must be from his mother. I never impulse buy anything!
Go figure it. Just when I thought he was serious about the truck my son says he doesn't want it!
I didn't get over to see it, but the owner says it's a shortbed Ranger with a 460 V8. I guess someone wanted a big, big block. As the story goes the engine misses on three cylinders because it allegedly has some "bent push rods".
Last thing I need around here is another project sitting waiting for someone with a lot of money to toss at it!
I know they are hard to find and I like them. I just don't have the time for another project or the space. Ho-hum. I can get the guy's number if you're interested...
