Single plane intake question

I have a Holley street dominator single plane intake that i got with the 428 that I am building. This engine is going into a 76 highboy. My question is am I going to sacrifice any low end torque if I run this intake or should I find a dual plane intake to put on it? Or will the HP gain that I get by kicking the 360 to the curb and putting the 428 in offset my concerns?

I am not sure what carb I should run either. I still would like some fuel mileage (I know I know its an FE but right now with the worn out 360 that is in it now I am only getting 6 or less).

Now I am really going to show my ignorace as to intakes (no laughing at me, just chuckling)..... Why do some intakes have one large hole, some have two holes and some have four holes? I amy have a chance to get a stock manifold with 4 holes. Would this be worth getting?

for low end grunt definately go with the dual plane. the single plane designs sacrifice low end torque to gain in the upper rpm range. ive got a victor single plane on my windsor motor. itll wind up to 7200 all day long (till it blows that is). ive got an s code 390 intake on my truck but am trying to save up for an edel rpm. as far as the holes, all the single planes have one hole and the dual planes have either the two or four hole design to seperate the runners (180 degree vs. 360 degree designs). this is to the best of my knowledge, hope it helps.

A single plain intake like that is generally used for engine spinning at a higher rpm.. If your going to run your truck off road? your going to want all the torque you can get at your lower rpm..

If it were me...I would use a 750 Holley and a nice dual plane after market intake..or just run a stock 4 hole intake..If you cant afford an after market one?

The more holes in the intake the lower it brings in your torque curve at a lower RPM.

Hope this helps? -Russ

Hey 76 i might be interested in your intake?? I have a edelbrock performer RPM dual plane, but I am looking for a good single plane. Can any guys on here tell me if the holley intake would be better?? I am looking to drag race my truck so low torque is not what i need mostly high rpms and horsepower??

I do not believe that the street dominator will work better on ANY build over the RPM. It is a small runner single plane intake. The Dove, Edel Victor, and some old offenhausers are the good single planes.
