I was installing my rebuilt A4LD tranny back into my 87B2 tonight and got to the point where I should turn the crank and attach the torque converter nuts to the studs through the flywheel. When I went to rotate the crank clockwise to access the other nuts, the motor would not turn at all. What is the problem.....?
Did you make sure you have the torque convertor in all the way. Sometimes you can be fooled into thinking it is all the way in. I believe when I put mine in it was like three steps to get it all the way home. Just keep rotating back and forth till it drops in all the way. Good luck!

Remove the transmission and remove the torque converter. Put a light coat of grease on the splines of the converter and on the outside of the converter where the shaft is polished. There should be a couple of flats on the outside, make sure to get grease on those.
Stand the transmission on end with the bellhousing up. Then install the torque converter and rotate until it is fully seated. When it is in all the way only the studs will be above the bellhousing surface.
I had the same problem when I was replacing the tranny in my 87BII I ended up forcing the thing together and then about 3 miles into my test drive I broke the flywheel. Boy did I feel stupid.
you guys were right. I took the tranny back out and re-seated the torque converter. Everything is great now. I have driven it about 12 miles and I couldn't ask for better. THANKS!!
