Hard Shift
i have a 1999 f-150 4x4 with 120,000 miles and the tranny shifts extremely hard from 1st to 2nd only. mostly when i don't let off for the shift and keep on the gas through it. My mechanic thinks that changing the fluid to mercon 5 will make it go away (since a month before i changed it and put in maxlife which is supposed to compatable with mercon). this hard shift existed even before that. is there anything else i can do besides major work to the tranny?

i think it works ok except i have 285 size tires and when i get up around 65 and above and above it tends to jump around when i very my speed. its not the normal movement that should happen when you very speed its more spuratic. could this have anything to do with it?
