5.8W smog controls

After lurking for sometime and falling in love with the 56 F-100 I bought one and just finished the chassis and now ready to do the next step.
I have decided a simple 350 combo package that I have (new) is not the way for me, so I sourced a complete running 79' T-Bird 5.8W/FMX 2v carb.that drove as new. No smoke,no fumes, spun the tires. I want to clean it of all unneeded brackets etc. and wondered how much of the smog stuff I can eliminate to simplify while still allowing it to run good. ( I will register as classic and need no emissions sticker or test).
Also, can I run with a simpler distributor/coil set up and get rid of the CPU.??
Recomendations???
I have found this site to be the best in both info and web design/performance. You guys are awsome.. Thanks in advance.

The 79 car should have the good old electronic dizzy in it with the $20 module which is what I installed in my 65 mustang. If the module has the blue tab on it then it wouls be a nice addition to your project. I have a link at home to a site that shows one how to add this electronic ignition inplace of your points set up. Yes you can remove all of the polution stuff from the 79 motor and it will run fine. You have a little adjusting to do but thats all.

You can probably ditch the airpump and associated plumbing and the EGR valve and the vacuum controls for it. That will greatly simplify the engine installation and clean up the clutter. I would try to keep electronic ignition, as it is far superior to the old point setup anyway. I dont know if the carb on a '79 is computer controlled. Others can answer that. My '74 Econoline had a simple Autolite 2V, and Duraspark I ignition, and a nightmare of vaccum hoses to control the EGR system.
