Looking to swap a 460 into my 79 f250 4wd 4 speed manual. Truck will be used for hauling a 5th wheel trailer, 30 plus foot. Before I start looking is there any years which would be preferable for this purpose?
Thanks in advance
Well the 1970, DOVE engine is considered the best. It tends to have the strongest blocks and has small chamber heads. Of course this is the block that all the racers and high perfomance guys try to snap up.
Since you want to tow with it I would look for a D3VE. It has the larger heads so you will have an easier time keeping you compression down. You can find the casting marks for the block on the passenger side of the block, its towards the rear. The cating marks for the heads are above the exhaust ports in the center, very easy to see.
