I Have A 1991 F-150 With A E40d Tranny When It Is Cold It Works Ok. When It Is Warmed Up When You Put It In Reverse It Stalls The Motor Then When You Restart It,it Shifts In Reverse Ok I Think The Converter Locking Up. Does Anyone Know If There Is A Sensor Or Anything Else For This And Is It A Easy Fix .
I have precisely the same problem. In fact, the motor often sputters (that is, drops below 500) when i slow down to a stop. However, putting it in Neutral fixes all these problems.
Please, someone, give us the solution!
By the way, I also have an E4OD, behind a 351 with 151k miles on it

Wow 151K on an e4od time to start looking for a rebuild shop. I get about 60k on mine and they are wasted. From what I understand the computer tells the converter when to lock up. Are you getting any codes?
