I contacted my local Ford dealer and got the TSB faxed to me. Not sure if it is the whole thing or not. Its only 3 pages and has some references to some figures that are not on there. It also does not say anything about actually removing and reinstalling the window, only the gusset seal. For those of you that have done this before, would you think a below average mechanic could do this? Any special tools needed? Thanks
It sounds like they faxed you everything but the pictures to go with it. At the top of the TSB is says "Remove the rear sliding window module and apply a gusset seal. Reinstall the same window module. The gusset seal should reduce the possibility of leaks. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details."
They dont give actual instructions on removing and installing the window but they tell you to refer to Section 501-11 of the shop manual.
It really isn't a terribly difficult job. Basically you remove the trim around the inside of the window and then the nuts that hold the window in. After that you follow the TSB which can be a bit confusing without the pictures. Hopefully some of the guys here that have done it will have some more pointers for you.
Did this last fall. Its not that hard. Half the work is getting the interior trim out to get to the window studs. It helps if you have a hand from a buddy when you actually pull out the window. The pictures in the TSB would really help. I would try and get a hold of the whole TSB. When you go to the dealer to pick up the gusset seal see if they have the whole TSB. They may have printed off a version without the pictures when they faxed it to you. Remove the interior trim and headliner and the back to the rear seat if you have a supercab. This will reveal the nuts that hold the frame in. The nuts go all around the frame. I don't remember how many there are. Then break the butyl seal with a putty knife. Go easy and take your time working your whole way around the window. As you break the seal you will be able to push the frame away from the cab. Remove the frame clean all the factory butyl off the window frame and the truck cab. Put the new butyl rope and the gusset seal on the frame as shown in the TSB and install the frame back into the cab.
My 97 is leaking too. Does anyone have the TSB number for the the repair of this? Also, does anyone know if other model years have windows that are interchangable with the 97 if I could find one at a salvage yard?
Hi G Lewis and welcome to FTE
The TSB number is 01-01-11. Your dealer can probably print you off a copy of it.
I believe that all the 97-03 F150 windows will fit.
