Purchase ?

Hello all,

Currently Looking at a 1997 F 250 Heavy Duty.
Has 102,000 miles and is very clean.
Lifted and a 460 power plant.

Can anyone give me a heads up or a few pointers as of what to look for before purchase?

I currently own a 1995 F 150 with a Rancho lift 5.8L and have a basic Idea what to look for.
Is there any unique to the 460 or the F250 i need to be aware of?

Thanks!

Check the basics... driveline (especially the lifted suspension) for wear & maintenance and make sure everything works. If it has auto hubs, those can be problematic. Other than that, I can't really think of any "problem" areas. I bought my '97 F250 with 181,000 miles. The 460 is strong and uses no oil, but I just had to have the tranny rebuilt. Everything else (including all bulbs, guages, etc.) still works perfectly.

Be sure to check KBB & Edmunds for regional pricing. Used vehicles are pretty cheap these days.

I sold my 1997 F350 Heavy Duty XLT 4x4 CC LB with 460 and auto tranny and 90,000 miles on it last year for $16,000. I could have got more, but sold it to a friend of mine for trade-in value. He has over 105,000 miles on it now and says it is the best truck he every owned. It was in perfect shape mechanically and cosmetically. Shocks wear out and cause the ball joints to wear. The ball joints on mine were changed at ~45,000 miles. Ball joints were replaced under the extended warranty, would have cost $1000-$1500??? if I had to pay. Engine ran strong and didn't burn oil, I had changed oil at 3000 miles religiously. Only other problems I every had with it was a blown power steering hose and an automatic hub died which I then had the dealer replace both hubs with manuals under warranty. I had just replaced the front brake pad at about 80,000 miles and the rear shoes were still good at that time. Current owner still hasn't had to change the rear shoes.
Kind of wish I never sold it, but I also like my current trucks just fine. The truck had 3.55 gears (bought it before I started towing) and could have used lower gears for my current needs. Did get fair gas mileage, about 8-9 in the city and 11-13 on the hwy.

Hey Guys, Thanks ! you know what they say, more dollars than sense. LOL!
All it takes is Money.

Sorry the Pic was so big. couldn't figure out how to make it smaller.
Twin, those are weld Wheels. Problem is I had a slow leak in the left rear, took it to a shop and found out the Rim was leaking.
It appears that the crack is where the Bold disc meets the rim.
Weld has a 3 year warranty so should have a replacement on Monday.

I like the Rims but if i had the choice I go with the Mickey Thompson classic ll

It is getting harder and harder to find the older trucks.
I'm luck because I live in Arizona and nature is kind to the Body and lots of trucks to choose from.
I also own a F150 and just love these trucks.
A 1997 F350? Sweet! Man that had to hurt getting rid of it.
Thanks again for the advice.
